Key Responsibilities
Tree Climbing:
Perform pruning and technical removals using rope and saddle (MRS and SRS) and/or aerial lifts. Must be proficient in a wide range of rigging and felling techniques.
Tree Care:
Execute cabling, bracing, and fine pruning according to ANSI A300 standards.
Safety & Equipment:
Conduct daily Pre-Trip Inspections on trucks, chippers, and chainsaws; ensure job sites are secure.
Site Management:
Lead ground crews in brush chipping and site cleanup to maintain professional property standards.
Emergency Response:
Assist with storm-damaged tree clearance as needed.
Qualifications & Requirements
Experience:
Minimum [1–3] years of professional tree climbing experience.
Certifications:
College diploma in Arboriculture/Urban forestry
ISA Certified Arborist or ISA Certified Tree Worker Climber Specialist is preferred
Driver’s License:
Valid [Class G] required; [Class DZ] is an asset.
Safety Training:
Current Working at Heights, First Aid/CPR, and Chainsaw Safety certifications.
Physical Fitness:
Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in all weather conditions.
Compensation
Competitive hourly wages. $25-$32

Role Overview
Thornton Tree Solutions is looking for a hardworking, safety-conscious Ground Support Laborer to join our crew. This is a full-time seasonal position. In this role, you will be the "eyes and ears" on the ground, supporting our climbing arborists and aerial lift operators to ensure every job is completed safely and efficiently. This is a physically demanding outdoor role perfect for someone who enjoys manual labour and wants to start a career in arboriculture.
Key Responsibilities
Job Site Support:
Assist climbing arborists by managing ropes, rigging, and lowering limbs and logs safely to the ground.
Equipment Operation:
Safely operate and maintain woodchippers, chainsaws, stump grinders, and leaf blowers.
Debris Management:
Drag brush, move heavy wood sections, and rake job sites to ensure they are cleaner than when we arrived.
Safety & Communication:
Maintain constant voice or visual communication with the crew leader and climbers to coordinate work in the drop zone.
Maintenance:
Assist in daily vehicle inspections, fueling saws, and ensuring all gear is properly stocked and organized on the truck.
Qualifications & Requirements
Physical Fitness:
Ability to lift 50+ lbs repeatedly, stand for long periods, and work in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain).
Driver’s License:
Valid G or G2 driver’s license with a clean abstract; a DZ license is a major asset.
Reliability:
Must be punctual and ready to work at the scheduled start time every day.
Teamwork:
Strong communication skills and the ability to follow instructions precisely to ensure crew safety.
Experience:
Previous experience in landscaping, tree care, or construction is preferred but we are willing to train the right candidate with a strong work ethic.
Compensation
Competitive hourly wages: $18-22 per hour based on experience.
